The town of Shandon is located approximately 18 miles East of Paso Robles off of Hwy 46 East at the bottom of the San Juan Valley where San Juan Creek and Cholame Creek come together to form the Estrella River which flows West to meet the Salinas River west of Paso Robles.

Grasslands and low hills surround the town with the area southwest of town being an agricultural region. This part of the county’s economy is largely based in agriculture. Several large vineyard plantings including Arciero Farms, Sunview Shandon, Shandon Valley Partners, Red Cedar Vineyards and French Camp Vineyards represent important employers in the region.

Former Deputy Secretary of State, National Security Advisor and United State Secretary of the Interior William P. Clark, Jr. resided near Shandon until his death in 2013. He built Chapel Hill on the hill above his ranch which can be seen to the North of Hwy 46E. The Chapel holds services and hosts special events.

The current population of Shandon is under 2000. There are entry level homes, small ranchettes and large acreage parcels available at affordable prices.

In addition to the vineyards are cattle and horse ranches and large stretches of undeveloped land.
